What tread depth means I need new tyres?

The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tread and around the whole circumference. Wet performance drops off noticeably before that, so most technicians suggest planning a change nearer 3mm. A free tyre safety check will tell you exactly where yours stand.
