Driving Without an MOT
In the UK if your vehicle is more than 3 years old it must have an MOT test annually to make sure that it is roadworthy and safe to drive.
Failure to drive without a valid MOT certificate is illegal and you could be fined up to £2500 and end up with points on your licence. In addition to this it can also invalidate your insurance and prevent you from renewing your road tax.
Failed MOT test
It is still legal to drive your vehicle if it has failed its MOT test, however, you can only drive until the current MOT certificate expiry date.
Your vehicle must still be roadworthy including the lights, brakes and at least 1.6mm of tread on your tyres. Driving when your vehicle has a serious defect is an offence and you could incur a fine of £2500, receive points on your licence and in more serious cases be banned from driving.
Driving to the Garage
It is illegal to drive on the road or even park your car without a valid MOT certificate. You can only drive straight to a garage for a pre-booked MOT test.
You can book your MOT online with VMB Autocentre Handsworth or call us on 0114 3224446
