What Makes Caravan Tyres Different?
Caravan tyres are specially designed to cope with the unique demands of towing. Unlike standard vehicle tyres, many caravan tyres are fitted with Tyron safety bands, a smart safety feature that offers extra protection against:
- Blowouts
- Punctures
- Under-inflation
These safety bands are installed between the tyre and wheel to keep the tyre beads in place, even in the event of air loss. This helps prevent the tyre from coming off the wheel and allows for short-distance run-flat capability, so you can safely pull over or reach a service stop without further damaging your caravan or causing a dangerous breakdown.
When Should I replace My Caravan Tyres?
Caravan tyres should be replaced at least every 5 years, even if they haven’t been used regularly. That’s because the rubber compound deteriorates over time, increasing the risk of a blowout.
You can check the manufacture date on the tyre sidewall – it’s marked by a four-digit code showing the week and year the tyre was made. If your tyres are reaching or exceeding five years old, it’s time to replace them.
Don’t let a flat or worn tyre ruin your holiday. A simple tyre check before you set off could save hours of delay and a costly recovery.
